    http://www.idesigntimes.com/articles/4719/20130418/spring-2013-fashion-trends-where-to-shop.htm

This spring basic patterns and clothes are in; it’s all about staples that have a twist. Like wearing flannel shirts, and pairing them with wide leg trousers. A new style is to wear men’s inspired clothes and mix it up, make it your own. The pieces shown at Coachella have hints of the 70’s and 80’s these patterns are sleek, soft, and are more refined.
The biker jacket is casual and has been a spring style staple ever since James Dean wore one, but instead of the usual black jackets white and nude is more likely to be seen this season. Also instead of the more fitted jackets you’re going to see more big and boxy ones. Another big staple is the cut off belly tops, Designers like Alexander Wang, and Michael Kors debuted their belly baring versions that cut off right above your belly button. Pairing these shirts with a high wasted skirt of tuxedo pants with flatter most figures, or even wear a blazer over top, the focus will shift to chic rather than showcase to much skin.
In the fifties a huge staple was the fitted jacket or blazer, which people are still wearing now. Unlike the forties, fashion in the fifties took a more fun twist this time period was characterized with form-fitting “wiggle” skirts shirtwaist dresses and ornate cardigan sweaters all three were staples. Form fitting dresses began introducing a sexier tight fitting look that you can see much more of today. Bright colors also got popular in the fifties showing a more rebellious fashion statement. Without some of the fashion statements in the fifties clothing that we wear today wouldn’t be nearly as popular.

  3. Music has always been a part of people’s lives; it is now commonly downloaded off the internet instead of being bought in stores. ITunes has been a dominant resource in obtaining music for the past 10 years. It’s so well-known that 44 million Americans purchased at least one song or album from iTunes last year. On top of that, Eight out of 10 people who buy digital music have bought music from iTunes. ITunes is so popular that it owns 63 percent of the music download business.
Furthermore, you will find tons of famous singers on iTunes, like Bruno Mars for example, who has achieved five No. 1s already in his career. Amazingly, Mars has racked his first five Hot 100 No. 1s faster than any male since the great Elvis Presley. In addition, Mars scored the second No. 1 in the Hot 100's archives featuring only piano and vocals; the first was Adele with the song "Someone Like You.”
In conclusion, music plays a big role in culture and is constantly updated with newer songs and faces. Back in the 1950s, Elvis was the king of the music industry and was appreciated by thousands of people. Music at that time could only be heard on the radio, TV, or on a CD/record and could only be bought at stores. Today, acquiring music has become more advanced; people have created online sources like iTunes, Pandora, etc. through the years, which became an easier, quicker, and convenient way for people to download songs at their very own homes. Most people can also access their music on their phones, and can access iTunes on their too. With new singers being discovered constantly, and new hits always rising up, music can never stop growing, and so the prosperous music industry will never get old.

    http://www.wnd.com/2004/01/22765/

When you think of America the first thing that pops into your head is usually freedom: “land of the free and home of the brave”. In American culture generation by generation are taught about sharing our traditions of Citizenship, American Holiday Celebration, Craftsmanship, Entrepreneurship, Competition, Leadership, Know-How, and Positive Attitude. Our culture is about having a say and having your rights. We have a say in our government and we are free. In America we all have equal opportunity to grow to our potential and make a difference. We are all equal under the law and we fight for what’s right. We are also known for showing our individuality. The culture in America has changed drastically. We now have more people getting piercings and tattoos (males and females) than ever before to show that they are unique. Not only are people getting piercings and tattoos but they are getting implants and facial surgery. Americans have the idea that what they see in the magazines is what they need to be or they have to be the complete opposite. Some people have changed the way they look drastically by plastic surgery, implants, piercings, and tattoos and even 3D-art implants. Some Americans take being an individual to extremes but we are becoming more unique for better or worse and showing who we really truly are at heart.

    http://www.thedailyaztec.com/2013/04/south-georgia-hs-to-host-first-integrated-prom/
Both my articles were about how one school in Georgia held their first integrated prom this year. Even though segregation is illegal, Wilcox County high school was able to do it because parents and students of the community funded the dances, rather than school district. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) urged Wilcox County High School to sponsor the school dances. Mareshia Rucker (African-American) and Brandon Davis (white) are best friends who go to Wilcox County high school. The two hung up posters around the school and students against integrated prom ripped them down. Parents even threatened to riot if the school held an integrated prom. With the help of a lot of people, Wilcox County High School was able to throw its first integrated prom.
These articles relate to the civil rights because the civil rights were about integrating public places and putting an end to segregation. Even though the civil rights movement took place in the 60’s, we are still dealing with segregation in 2013.

    http://wusfnews.wusf.usf.edu/post/keeping-your-culture-american-melting-pot
In the first article it talks about the effects that homeschooling has on children. It says how the home schooling doubled to 1.5 million students from 1999 to 2007. These students are mostly lead by Christian teachings. Some of the children say that there experience as a homeschooled child was not pleasant and that they were forced into thinking a certain way. The article also speaks about how the children don’t have a chance to know the outside world and are often judged and made fun of by public schooled children. This is like the Central High Schooling innocent in the 1950’s because the black children were seen as outcasts because they were different. The white children were grown by their parents to think African Americans are bad people and don’t have the same rights, just as the home schooled kids are taught that Christianity is the only religion. The second article speaks about immigrants from various countries coming and learning English. It is difficult to embrace other cultures in America because of the impact, but people from different countries state that they embrace their own culture by speaking their language at homes even though their children, who were born here, are taught English. This is like the late 50’s because as an African American living in a white society it was difficult to embrace their culture and do things that they were used to. The 50’s was a difficult time for the black people in many ways having to do with culture.

Both of the articles that I have gathered are both about American and North Korean cultures , you can really tell the difference between the both as American culture is different because American culture speaks the official American english and North Korea's language is Korea which is the base of their culture. In America, religion is practiced in the United States which was made that way because of freedom of religion, North Korea have at least 3 which is christianity , buddhism and Korean Shamanism. America's food was created through the influence of European and Native American cuisine with different types of fast food, such as fast food, restaurant food etc, a delight. North Korean food culture originated and evolved from ancient cuisine in Southern Manchuria and Korean peninsula. American art culture is around the world and know as the biggest media of America. Since the Japanese has ruled Korea they influenced Korea through the Arts and now Korea's art expresses they nation through the arts. America's sports is also widely known through all of the American nation and Europe , it is a sports minded country , have million of fans who follow their sports, and has a huge popularity because of sports. North Korea's sports culture has its best know sport called arirang. Although America's culture is going great even until the year today in 2013 , North Koreas culture is on the negatives with all the problems they are facing, orphanage , poorness, homelessness its going down the slide of problems.

Before the sexual revolution of the 1960s, there was no non-offensive name for people who weren't straight- the closest term, "third gender", went back to the 1860s but never gained wide acceptance in the United States. In the 1970s the terms of “gay, lesbian, bi, and trans-gender kicked off”. Gays have been recorded back to thousands of years ago and from then until 1970’s they were EXTREMELY discriminated against for some reasons that people may never know. LGBT was first established in 1988 but was official in 1990 after LGBT was established millions have come out and have even been made famous on TV or on the streets and people who are involved in the LGBT are a lot more confident. Every year there are hundreds of LGBT parades and many of them have been attacked, such as bombs, straight riots, and these are resulted in even murders, just recently there was a LGBT parade in Serbia and it was attacked by people. They threw rocks and tear gas and jumped people who were involved in the parade. Cops eventually split up the disaster. Every day millions of LGBT’s are harassed and teased still to this day, which result in many suicides and depression. This relates to our conversation on the Civil Rights movements. Here is a list of famous people who have admitted the following:
    -Lady Gaga is bisexual.
-Rob Halford of Judas Priest is gay.
    -Elton John is gay.
    -Angelina Jolie is bi.
    -Jane Lynch is lesbian.
    -Freddie Mercury was gay.
    -Rosie O’Donnell is lesbian
-Jeffree starr is a transgender and gay.

My two articles are about the current music culture in the U.S., and how it is effecting other parts of the country. My first article is about Pop and Jazz festivals which will be happening during the summer. Los Angeles State Historic Park , Aug. 3-4, will be hosting a huge festival for electronica music. June 22-Sept. 29, they will be hosting a festival to tribute folk-rock and Hip hop and R&B. Monterey Fairgrounds, Sept. 20-22, will be hosting a Jazz festival. All of this is to tribute the biggest names to have ever played that genre of music and to just remember past times. Just to let everyone know how music has an impact on the country, the U.S postal service has just launched a Music Icons Series to remember the greatest musicians/artists of all time. This just goes to show the how widespread the music culture still is to this day and how this country loves its music.

In the first article it states that you are no longer living in your grandfather’s Pennsylvania things have changed stated Terry-Madonna and Michael L. Young. Pennsylvania is a culturally conservative state where tradition is strong, change is slow, and fundamental beliefs are enduring. The thought that the culture is changing is from a recent polling data compiled by Madonna and gang. They say that this shift of a large increase of percentage points of those who support the legalization of marijuana, universal background checks on all guns purchases and gay marriage or same-sex civil unions. The poll numbers have grown over the years. 82% favor medical marijuana if prescribed by a doctor. 89% favor universal gun background checks for all gun sales. 54% favor gay marriage while 65% favor civil unions for same-sex couples. The second article is about pop culture today where women try to reduce their risk of getting breast cancer. The other thing is overcoming drug addiction. Lastly is celebrities’ gossip on their romance. This connects to what I learned because none of this would have happened in the 50’s or 60’s.

  11. Both my articles were about babies being addicted to drugs. When pregnant mothers are addicted to drugs, their babies comes out drug dependent. More than 13,000 infants or one baby each hour are born addicted to drugs. This number has tripled in the past decade. Babies experience "Tremulousness, jitteriness, hyperglycemia, even seizures, early on, in the first couple days of life". In order to stop the addiction, most babies are put on morphine or codeine and are slowly taken off of it in 4 to 6 weeks. The babies also suffer long term effects from being addicted to drugs, such as; shaking, seizures, sleeping problems, brain damage, eating, lower IQ’s, and they often have difficulties in school. A lot of babies get so agitated that they constantly scratch and rub their faces; nurses now have to put mittens on the baby’s hands so they don’t hurt themselves. Some hospitals even have people called “cuddlers” who rock drug addicted babies to help them stop crying, including a 71 year old retired professor who goes from room to room rocking babies.
This relates to what we’re learning in class because drugs started becoming more relevant.

the way i interpreted both my articles are about how music is a culture to many, always changing, and can bring people together. The one Article talks about how in Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.. a group called Musicians on call walk down the hallways and visit sick patients to try and bring some enjoy to them. In the other article there is a academy known as red bull music academy which holds a huge festival in New York. This festival allows you to hear other culture's music, get the unknown artists that red bulls academy is developing out to the world and to have a fun time. I connect this to the 50's when Elvis was in his out and in his prime, he let people mix and see other cultures as well as brought people together and allowed people to have fun. Music has been a gate way to many things and most of them are good.

    1. Both of my articles are about the addiction of drugs with kids/teens. Over the past few years kids and teens have had an increase in drug addiction and its becoming a problem. One of my articles is the increase in Afghanistan. Kid addicts range from the age of 3 to 12. There are an increasingly high number of rehabilitation centers going up and an increasingly high number of kids going to them. Most of the kids were influenced by their parents and the parents were giving them these certain drugs but others were doing it without their parents even knowing. In my other article it shows the risks of drug abuse and what could go wrong with the body if it continues. The risks to kids are extremely dangerous and could cause serious problems with health and possibly death. This all relates to what we are learning in class because of the 1960’s. The hippies and teens were rebels and began using weed and other drugs. They were the first generation to rebel against rules, show their skin, be teens and live life.

These two articles are about celebrating culture in different countries, they use celebrations and traditions to emphasize their culture in many different ways. As in the United States with Christmas, other countries have different festivals and holidays in their countries. The U.S. should be educated and should know the info on these other countries so that they could appreciate the workings and styles of other countries instead of just their own counties
